What conditions can
chiropractic treat?
Chiropractic can relieve pain related to the neck, back,
shoulder, arm, hand, hip, leg and foot pain. Conditions
such as arthritis, degenerative disc disease, frozen
shoulder, muscle spasms, sciatica, numbness and tingling
of the extremities, plantar fascitis, sprain or strains,
and tennis elbow can be relieved by chiropractic
treatment.
If I have had neck or back surgery is it safe for me
to receive chiropractic treatment?
Yes. The mechanics of your body change when you have
surgery on your neck or back. Chiropractic treatment is
important to keep your joints moving properly to prevent
injury to other areas of your spine. Depending on the
type of surgery, treatment is usually administered to
the joints surrounding the surgical site.
Once I begin chiropractic treatment will I have to be
treated forever?
There is no evidence that patients become addicted or
dependent on chiropractic treatment. Most patients find
it beneficial to have regular chiropractic treatment
because they feel so great after an adjustment. We will
determine if chiropractic care can treat your condition
by learning your health history, performing a physical
examination and possibly x-rays. If we determine that
chiropractic can benefit you, we will then estimate a
recommended treatment period. Every case is different
and each patient’s response time varies.
Can children receive chiropractic care?
Absolutely! Children and infants benefit from
chiropractic care. Because a child's body is constantly
growing and changing, it is important to keep their
joints moving in the right direction. Treatment can
prevent postural problems that begin early in life.
Children tend to respond more quickly and require less
treatment than do adults.
Can chiropractic help children with ear infections,
colic, asthma, sleeping trouble etc…?
Children are more prone to these conditions because
their bodies are young and have not had the chance to
build up their immune system. Because chiropractic
treatment allows their immune system to to function at
its best, it is important to have your child treated to
fight these common childhood conditions. See Benefits.
Does chiropractic treatment hurt?
Chiropractic treatment rarely hurts and usually provides
instant relief. Some patients experience some discomfort
when beginning treatment, but it shortly subsides and
they become pain free.
What is the noise that is created with an adjustment?
The joints in your spine are surrounded by a capsule.
When a joint fixation is present, inflammation gets
trapped in the joint and causes adhesions to form.
During an adjustment the goal is to release those
adhesions by slightly gapping the joint. The noise comes
from the gapping of the joint and the release of the
adhesions.
What methods are utilized?
Dr. Mace uses a diverse array of techniques because each
patient's response varies. She treats your entire spine
and the extremities if needed. Gonstead, Motion
Palpation, Thompson, Diversified, and Activator
techniques are used. In addition, she uses trigger point
and myofascial release therapy. Dr. Mace also uses
electric muscle stimulation and ultrasound to speed up
healing time.
